A New Ship's Gas Turbine Generation in Exchange for the Low-Ship's Diesel Engine
The enviromental protection standarsds and the need gor a better efficiency propulsion engine have finally produced the first results. Large NOx emissions at low-speed propulsion engines have limited by new regulations after the year 2000. It is possible to reduce the NOx, emissions of over 17 g/kWh at low-speed propulsion engines by using the new generation of ship's gas turbines with the NOx emission bellow 1 g/kWh. The new way in the combustion of fuel as well as higher temperatures of hot gases have increased the efficiency to 40 %. Since 1997 most world gas turbine manufacturers (IHI, KHI, Daihatsu Diesel, Niigata Engineering and Yanmar Diesel) have been working hard on the development of a new ship's gas turbine generation called SMGT (Super Marine Gas Turbine). The SMGT has a good chance to endanger the priority in using lowe-speed ship's diesel at mean and higher power.
