Influence of different cultivars and types of soil on flax and fibres properties
The aim of the paper was to investigate the influence of different cultivars and types of soil as well as possible quality improvements of flax fibres. The experiments included five European cultivars of flax fibre: Viking, Viola, Agatha, Electra and Viking in the continental part of the Republic of Croatia on soils of different physical and chemical properties, on anthropogenized eutric cambisol (field 1) and on pseudogley on level terrain (field 2), since type soil directly affects fibre properties. The agronomic properties investigated were morphological (plant height, technical steam length, steam thickness) and physical-mechanical properties of fibres (length, fineness, tenacity). Based on the results of the morphological and physical- mechanical properties of flax the cultivars Viola and Venica, cultivated on anthropogenized eutric cambisol, achieved higher values.
