Current and future aspects of Eurocode 7 application in rock engineering
Eurocode 7 is a European standard that encompasses a wide range of definitions and guidelines for conducting investigation works and designing in geotechnical engineering. However, from the very beginning of the implementation of the new concept, many designers pointed to the fact that its use in rock engineering is very difficult. The reasons for this are to be found in many factors, mostly linked with uncertainties associated with the different nature of discontinuous rock masses in relation to the soil. This paper gives an overview of the current state of Eurocode 7, focusing on issues linked with its application to rock engineering, as well as the ongoing efforts and the initiatives in improvement of this geotechnical design code.
