Photoinduced degradation of pharamceuticals with solar-like and UV-radiation over photocatalytic films
The aim of this study was to evaluate photolytic and photocatalytic degradation processes of two pharmaceuticals - nitrofurantoin (NF) and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in aqueous solution. Two different lamps as the light sources (UV-A LED lamp and solar- like lamp) and two different photocatalytic films deposited on borosilicate glass rings (nanostructured sol-gel anatase TiO2 film and anatase-rutile film mixed with SiO2 based on commercial P-25 TiO2 from Degussa Co.) were used. Photolytic experiments showed that NF is notable degradable with both lamps and HCQ was not photolytic degradable at all. Photocatalytic experiments showed that P- 25/SiO2 film has higher degradation efficiency then other film for both pharmaceuticals and both of the pharmaceuticals can be totally degraded within 60 minutes.
