The influence of welding speed on the properties of TI6AL4V titanium alloy weld joint produced with disk laser
The paper deals with the study of influence of welding speed on the properties of Ti6Al4V titanium alloy. The thickness of base metal is 2.0 mm. Butt weld joints were produced with TruDisk 4002 laser. The welding speed used for joining ranged from 30 to 70 mm/s. Laser power of 1.7 kW and focus position of 0 mm were utilized during welding. Argon was used to shield the weld pool from contamination. Light microscopy, microhardness measurements across base metal (BM) - heat affected zone (HAZ) - weld metal (WM) interface and tensile testing were carried out to analyze the weld joints properties. Martensite was observed in the weld metal. Microhardness increase from BM through HAZ towards WM was observed. The microhardness reached up to 407.5 HV0.3 (when welding speed of 40 mm/s was used), i.e. increase of microhardness by approximately 18 % was recorded in comparison to that of BM. The strength of weld joints produced with various welding speeds was higher in comparison to BM strength. Maximum strength of 1059 MPa was reached when welding speed of 60 mm/s was applied.
