The use of Personal Construct Theory to Research the Benefits and Constraints of Technologies from the Participants’ Perspectives
Personal Construct Theory (PCT) enlightens psychologists’/researchers’ understanding of people’s thinking. PCT can be used to support explorations and investigations into learners’ perceptions of technologies and their perceptions of learning with those technologies. One of the distinctive characteristics of PCT is that constructs used to distinguish elements are defined and created by the participants by making comparisons. In this presentation, the use of PCT will be used to explore technologies with an example that can be implemented in a variety of contexts and subject areas. This methodology showcases participants’ views of technology and its features. The example demonstrates PCT’s use in technology-related research. The primary focus of this presentation explores the affordances and constraints of PCT use and technology Results of research contextualize the theory in practice through collecting data on technologies.
