Accesion to the European union and the impact on the movement of workers : the case of Croatia

Freedom of movement for workers as a narrower area of freedom of movement for persons is one of the four fundamental freedoms of the internal market of the European Union, which consists of freedom of movement for persons, services, capital and goods. Freedom of movement for workers is defined in Articles 45 to 48 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and is based on the principle of non-discrimination on the basis of nationality for workers from Member States with regard to their employment, remuneration and other conditions of work and employment in general. County entering into full membership of the European Union represents a chance for migrant workers to find jobs or/and to find better working conditions. Migration flows are common occurrences within EU member states but there are also migrations from third countries towards EU member states. The migration direction is mostly from "new" member states to the "old" member states searching for employment or better working conditions than existing ones in own country. Croatia has, in its short period of membership, since 2013, been more country from which workers have emigrated than immigrated. What is the impact on the economy of the country in this case and whether the Internal market of the European Union really has the role of reducing the differences between Member States and increasing competitiveness or, on the other hand, has an impact on increasing the differences in the competitiveness of their own Member States, still needs to be answered. The purpose of this paper is to show the movements of the workforce within the member states of the European Union with special emphasis on the Republic of Croatia as a consequence of the full membership of the European Union. Namely, faced with the fact of outflow of citizens from the Republic of Croatia, we are trying to find more concrete data on the outflow but also about the inflow of workforce within the EU member states and within the Republic of Croatia, and about the type of workforce and the reasons for migration
