The Project Math Picturebooks
The paper focuses on two research questions:(1) How can a math picturebook contribute to acquiring math concepts? and (2) Which connections among the vertices of the SDT (socio-didactical tetrahedron)become most prominent and most empowered during the process of using a picturebook in class? The study was conducted as part of an interdisciplinary project, Math Picturebooks, funded by the University of Zagreb. The results show that the use of picturebooks contributed to new mathematical knowledge as well as to pupils’ motivation. The process of teaching and learning mathematical concepts through art is complex and multi-layered, and it is beneficial for the development of various aspects of a child's personality.
