Miracles do happen

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare cutaneous neuroendocrine tumor located predominantly on the head and neck, having aggressive clinical behaviour and poor overall survival. It often metastasizes to the regional lymph nodes but distant metastasis might be evident as well. Although the etiology of the diseases is unknown, infection with Merkel cell polyomavirus has been implicated into its pathogenesis. Even though it s rare event , some MCC are able to regress spontaneously, especially after the biopsy. Some speculate that tumor infiltrating lymphocytes might be responsible for that event, but exact proofs are still lacking. We report a case of an 87- year old caucasian male diagnosed with MCC on the scalp that resolved spontaneously within 3 months. The process of regression started after the incisional biopsy. The patient was thoroughly examined in other to exclude metastasic process but there haven’t been present any signs of the diseases except on the skin.
