On the creep deformation of single crystal Ni base superalloy CMSX-3
Heat treated specimens of single crystal nickel base superalloy were submitted to tension creep at the temperature of 900°C. The deformation process was investigated at different states of creep. In the matrix hardened by bimodal precipitates the development of dislocation structure and precipitates morphology changes were studied by means of TEM on longitudinal sections of creep deformed samples close to fracture surfaces. The observation of fracture surfaces shows that fracture induced by creep damage starts from incipient casting pores of cracks initiated in carbide precipitates.
