Energy from Waste - A Review of Mathematical Modelling of Waste Combustion

The increasing popularity of incineration of municipal solid waste (MSW) calls for detailed mathematical modelling and understanding of the incineration process, also concern for the environmental impact. A numerical approach is presented for modelling waste combustion in a full scale incineration plant. Both solid and gas phase reactions are considered. Various mechanisms of heat and mass transfer between the waste bed, the air and the combustion products are taken into account, as well as radiation from the furnace walls and the combustion products.
