Culture as a Differentiating Factor in Management

The globalisation, as well as the significant changes which are characteristic of the new Milennium, the creation of new states and the domination of capitalism have also affected management. The changes which have been identified in practice need to be examined in theory as well in order for us to be able to find new solutions which could enable a more successful management performance. The differences found in management, which are becoming ever more visible, but still lack sufficient research, point out to a high level of cultural influence on the processes taking place within the fundamental management functions. Therefore, as a subject of the research we have identified culture and its influence onto the management performance. The purpose of the research is imbedded in the demistification of the differences in the management performance with regard to the cultural differences worldwide. It primarily refers to the differences in the culture of Europe, America and Japan. The afore-mentioned states should be joined by China as well, which is particular in every sense, and with respect to its size its market value is extremely big. The aim of the research is to determine how, to what extent and in what way are the cultural differences affecting the management of the three afore-mentioned fields of research. The fact that business has becoming as global as ever, and that global markets communicate with each other, affect the management and the differencies in management domains, which needs to be examined and explained. The perceiving of the differences in the management of different markets, created under the influence of culturological differences contributes to a better understanding, appreciation and a more successful business cooperation. At the first view, some characteristics seem better in one market with respect to some other market, but the very fact that something looks better does not necessarily mean that it can apply to another market. For example, Kaizen, which is a culturological basis of the Japanese management is also well-known in Europe, but in a significantly different way. Therefore, culture and tradition are important determinants in the implementation and functioning of management, and they emerge as an issue which is still lacking substantial research. There is a range of issues resulting from the research of the influence of culture on the processes which are carried out in management and its POLC- framework functions, some of which will be provided within this research.
