Ptice u romanu "Baba Jaga je snijela jaje" Dubravke Ugrešić
Dubravka Ugrešić’s novel Baba Yaga Laid an Egg (2008) consists of three parts. In all of them the bird appears as a recurring motif. Although every part of the novel reflects and repeats the other parts, the third part is both metafictional parody of interpretation and parody of metafictional downplaying of interpretation. The third part of Baba Yaga Laid an Egg is written as a letter of Dr Aba Bagay to the male editor. Aba Bagay organizes her interpretation as a set of entries referring to the mythological background of Baba Yaga. Every entry ends with ‘Remarks’ which establishes relations between mythological background and themes, motives and characters appearing in the diptych. In our paper, we will attempt to answer to those general questions regarding the relationship between three parts of the novel, by taking peculiar features of the entry “Bird”.
