CONVENTIONAL vs. PROCESS BUS PROTECTION SYSTEM - PERFORMANCE COMPARISON

The recent developments in the technology make acquisition, sampling and transmission of measured values possible with such precision as to fulfill the power system control and protection requirements. Nonconventional instrument transformers implementation and measured values transmitting over a IEC61850 process bus introduce new qualities into the system but also require that system is adapted to them. Since the protection and control systems with process bus are at the beginning of their implementation it is clear that there are lot of questions regarding the behaviour and characteristics of such a system. Process bus will bring the benefits in the protection and control system design and engineering but before this it must be proved that the technical characteristics of the conventional system will not be degraded.
