Status of lessepsian migrant fish species in the eastern Adriatic Sea : a review
During the last few decades, various factors including climate change, anthropogenic activity and lessepsian migration have altered the composition of Adriatic ichthyofauna. Extensive investigations carried out in the last decades allowed us to recognize species previously not recorded or reported in this area. Among these, 12 Lessepsian migrants fish species were recorded in the Eastern Adriatic Sea. It seems that Fistularia commersonii, Siganus luridus and Lagocephalus sceleratus are successful invaders especially in its southern part. The impact of successful colonizators on populations of native communities is still unknown, but considering relatively the fast pace of many invasions it is possible that in the near future the impacts could be significant.
