Correlation between distributed school leadership and perceived school effectiveness in Croatian schools

This paper provides an overview of the theoretical and empirical findings aimed to reveal the correlation between the indicators of distributive school leadership (DSL) and indicators of school effectiveness (SE) in Croatian primary schools. The findings, among other things, emphasise the importance of encouraging teachers' active participation in decision-making process as well as principals' role in building teacher leadership capacity. Paper provides an overview of the empirical study on the features of DSL which was conducted on a random sample of 1163 teachers from 59 primary schools in Croatia. The schools were categorised into two dimensions regarding the school size (big/small) and working environment (urban/rural). A specially constructed and validated questionnaire of 50 items was used to examine the presence of DSL features in schools within the three elaborated dimensions: participation, influence and social relations. Likert 5-point scale was used to rate the items. A questionnaire consisting of 8 items was used to assess the values of perceived school effectiveness. We expect that the research results will confirm the theoretically established assumption of a positive correlation between the characteristics of DSL and SE. Particularly, the correlation between the value of each dimension of the DSL and the SE indicators will be verified. Additionally the given relationship between variables works for each type of school regarding the size and working environment will be established. With the calculation of a series of descriptive data for each given construct, more statistical correlation tests and multiple regression analysis will be applied.
