Velika epidemija hemoragijske vrućice s bubrežnim sindromom (HVBS) u Hrvatskoj (prvo priopćenje)
nemaIn the spring of 2002, the most widespread epidemic of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) so far occured in Croatia. By the end of July, more than 200 patients were hospitalized with etiologically (serologically) confirmed diagnosis. The epidemic started in winter, lasted through the spring, including summer months as well. The epidemic spread almost throughout Croatia. The majority of patients were hospitalzed in Zagreb, followed by Karlovac, Rijeka and Požega. Antibodies to Puumala virus were detected in the majority of patients. The authors discuss the importance of determining criteria for evaluating disease severity and propose a scoring system. The need for a comprehensive, epidemiological, ecological and mammalogical investigation is also stressed as well as hantavirus typization and characetrization in our region.
