Importance of Using Zinc in Agricultural Production
For their optimal growth plants need nutrients, both macro and micronutrients, and both groups have the same importance. Nutrients can be part of the soil by its origin, but due to intensive agricultural production the level of nutrients is lower year by year. In order to prevent this situation and still achieve high yields with good quality of agricultural products, fertilization is needed to be done according to good agricultural practice. Zinc is one of micronutrients that is disscused about, as very important world issue, on Copenhagen Consensus in 2008 and 2012. It is part of lot of enzymes (enolases, aldolases, carboanhydrase, superoxide-dismutase), important in the synthesis of RNA, related to N-metabolism. Zinc is equally important for animals and humans too. Around 30% of the world’s human population has diets deficient in zinc which is great issue in developing countries. Very good toll to improve nutritional value and mineral composition are agronomic biofortification, and genetic biofortification too.
