Setup for measuring and simulating high-frequency overvoltages of power transformer
During their operation, power transformers are stressed by switching and lightning overvoltages. Transformers that are extensively exposed to these stresses are usually equipped with transformer monitoring system which enables assessing the transformer’s condition at any given time. Recorded data, taken from the transient recorder (a module of transformer monitoring system), can be used to evaluate the amplitude and frequency of overvoltage occurrence for a given transformer. These transformer monitoring systems can be applied to the shunt reactors as well. Furthermore, it is possible to use these data for advanced simulations of electromagnetic transients in EMTP-type software in order to check the influence of overvoltages on transformers and neighboring components. Wide-band transformer models have to be used for these simulations. In this paper, a transformer model based on frequency dependent admittance matrix measurements is described, as well as the example of transformer monitoring system data analysis.
