Career development and personal success profile of students - followers and students - potential future leaders: The case of RIT Croatia

The main goal of this empirical research was to define predominant leadership characteristics and behaviours found among all four programs and generations of undergraduates at RIT Croatia's Dubrovnik and Zagreb campus. Six cluster analyses were conducted to answer threefold aim of this study. This study identified two clusters possessing different levels of leadership potential. The further aim was to assess whether Potential Future Leaders differ from their counterparts with less leadership potential Followers with regard to demographic characteristics, reported self- reliance socialization pattern, career focus attainment and development, and reported attitudes regarding importance of specific personality traits in leadership, importance of specific career development factors and success indicators. Research showed that not only did the Potential Future Leaders cluster score higher in all of 42 leadership characteristics, this cluster also scored significantly higher in the sample’s ranking of career development factors and success indicators as well as the importance of emotional stability and openness to experience as a specific leadership trait in comparison with Followers cluster. Only one socio-demographic factor considered by this study was significantly different between the clusters ; namely, those respondents who had moved once were significantly more represented in the Potential Future Leaders cluster.
