Many-body effects in interactions between drops
Fairly complicated systems, such as star polymers, dendrimers, spherical polymer brushes, and even cells can be represented as (liquid) drops with explicit surface. When two or more such systems are in vicinity, they start to overlap and this modifies their configuration and total energy. This can be approximately accounted for in the liquid drop model as a contact between surfaces of the drops which modifies the tension of the part of the surface which is engaged in the contact. Although simple, the model can be fairly thoroughly examined, both analytically and numerically, in order to get insight in the subtleties of the total interaction when many drops are in close contact, e.g. in a liquid or crystal of liquid drops.
