Concrete used in LNG storage tanks
LNG storage tanks are special structures used for storage of liquefied natural gas. Since large quantities of LNG are transported it is increasingly important to have safe storage facilities. Experience has showed that concrete can be successfully used for construction of LNG storage tanks. However, special care should be taken since the properties of construction materials used must assure that no damage will occur. It also means that the design and proper maintenance of LNG storage tanks require excellent knowledge of the thermo-mechanical and permeability properties of concrete at extremely low temperatures, the so-called cryogenic temperatures. This paper presents a review of reference papers outlining the current knowledge on thermo-mechanical and permeability properties of concrete at very low temperatures.
