Comparison of spatial standard of apartments built in Osijek in the last decade of the socialist era to the current housing design requirements
Housing quality is a complex construct that encompasses the various physical, intuitive and social characteristics of the apartment, its environment, and its users. It is also a variable category that largely depends on the time period in which it is observed. In this paper, housing quality is studied through one of its most important physical aspects – apartment's size. The aim of this research was to define the measurable physical characteristics of the apartments built in Osijek between 1980 and 1989, in order to enable the comparison with existing standards and requirements in the housing design. The results show that stagnation, and in some cases degradation, in the development of spatial standards for the housing design has occurred.
