Possibilities of Solving Supply Chain Planning Problems by Applying Linear Programming
Most of the supply chain planning problems can be considered as optimization problems. Such problems are successfully approximated by linear programming mathematical models, to be solved by software tools developed for that purposes. This approach can facilitate planning logistics operations, in order to improve managing the supply chain as a whole. Possibilities of applying linear programming mathematical models are demonstrated on a basic logistics problem – the resource allocation problem. Optimal solution of the problem is generated by using a suitable software tool, applied to the mathematical model. Further improvement of the model outlined in this paper would enable its practical implementation.
