SDG – New Sustainability Paradigm or Just Another Futile Attempt of Global Change?
Efforts to drive the society development towards sustainability origins from 70’s in the 20th century. In the decades to come, a series of declarations and charters by various commissions are signed by states, cities, institutions... Although the notion of sustainability has been defined already at the very beginning, the content of the declarations changes: it improves following the development of the sustainability paradigm, and adjusts to the needs of particular moment in time. The most recent attempt to change the present social and economic practices towards a more sustainable society comes with full formal political support. In 2015 the UN put forward the new sustainable agenda to guide the strategies and policies of member countries for the next 15 years. The set of 17 goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all, known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), were adopted by all countries. This lecture present the SDG system, and indicate possibilities and problems of its practical application.
