The aim of critical (radical) pedagogy, according P.Freire, is to strengthen theoretical and practical work in their mutual connection that could challenge posited domination in political, economic and symbolic power relations. Working at the different institutional levels (schools, universities, society) this discipline, as H. Giroux stressed, improves authentic democracy based on free, critical subjects. In the article the main theme is contextualized in the contemporary crisis of (higher) education, national state and university (B. Readings), opening up the perspectives in the field of education and related theoretical approaches especially those concerned with identity, community and ethics. Critical thinking and acting are precious foundation of democratic societies, which is, asM. Nussbaum demonstrates, linked to broad humanistic education, both at universities and high school level. Finally, critical pedagogy reaffirms valuable literary texts that could, with reasoned pedagogic guide, improve social dialog, compassionate acting and inclusion of the suppressed individuals and groups.
