Morphological differences between elite Croatian male and female dancesport partners.

The morphological characteristics play an important role when it comes to dancesport, and similar aesthetic sports athletes’ selection and dance performance. The authors who have conducted research in the area of morphological characteristics have mainly dealt with the comparison of different dancing forms (ballet, sport dance, folk dance etc.) and differences within particular disciplines of the dancesport, while there have been very few studies that aimed at investigating the differences between male and female dancesport athletes. Optimal partner selection and better aesthetically technical as well as sport performance (velocity, endurance and strength) might be achieved by establishing differences between male and female dance partners. 34 anthropometric body measurements were taken on a sample of 11 female dancers, whose mean age was 19, 68 ±11, 08 and 11 male dancers, whose mean age was 20, 91±13, 25. Body fat percentage was calculated. 34 anthropometric body measurements were taken on a sample of 11 female dancers, whose mean age was 19, 68 ±11, 08 and 11 male dancers, whose mean age was 20, 91±13, 25. Differences in female and male dancers’ morphological characteristics point at a possible problem in technical performance of the dances with closed position (posture, hold, moving). It must be emphasised that differences in subcutaneous fat levels between dance partners, in case the fat levels are more pronounced in a female dancer, might cause the drop when it comes to accomplishing maximal motor abilities (velocity, endurance, strength).
