The Other as Ally: Croatian- and German-language newspapers in Austro-Hungarian Pula (1905-1906)
Based on an analysis of texts from Croatian- and German-language newspapers in Austro-Hungarian Pula in 1905-1906, the paper attempts to answer the question of how the Other (“Germans”, the navy or other instances linked to the central imperial government ; “Croats” or the Croatian party) is discursively constructed and engaged with in the context of a politically charged multi-ethnic urban environment.
