Does living distance from the center of tourism activities influence on local residents’ quality of life?
Understanding local residents’ attitudes towards tourism development and its positive and negative impacts is important and crucial in order to minimize antagonism of local community towards tourists, and also to help local authority in creating adequate tourism policy. This study explores residents’ attitudes of quality of life (QoL) caused by tourism regarding their living distance from the centre of tourism activities, personal benefits from tourism, socio demographic profile, positive and negative tourism impacts in the city of Dubrovnik, Croatia in different seasons. Empirical research was conducted from May the 1st 2015 to May the 1st 2016 on the sample of 1.339 residents. This paper tries to determine in what way certain spatial, socio- demographic, temporal and behaviour variables, influence on perceived quality of life caused by tourism. To fulfill the main aim of the paper, ordinal logistic regression was used. The results suggest that certain demographical, spatial, behavioral and temporal characteristics influence on the local resident’s perception about growth of their quality of life caused by tourism development.
