The status of occupational therapy in Croatia: Comparing the perspectives of practitioners and students
In Croatia, occupational therapy is a profession that continues to struggle with professional marginalization in education, health and social care settings. A number of issues, such as a lack of mobility in education and professional development and a limited scope of practice, both influence and are influenced by the current status of occupational therapy in this context. In order to develop targeted, effective strategies for improving the position of occupational therapy in Croatia, it is important to first understand professional and public perspectives in regards to its current professional standing. Together with the results of previous research examining student perspectives on the status of OT in Croatia, the present paper aims to examine and compare these perspectives with those of OT practitioners. It will present an analysis of these perspectives based on a number of status indicators alongside reported opportunities and barriers currently experienced by occupational therapists working in Croatia. Based on the findings, implications for future initiatives aimed at improving the status of occupational therapy in Croatia will be discussed.
