Culture and Identity of Bulgarians in Zagreb, Croatia from 19th to 21st century
First Bulgarian immigrants arrived on the territory of today’s Croatia when they fled today’s Bulgaria because of the Turks or, better say, the Ottomans, but that migration has not been researched well by historians. The migrations that followed have been researched well, and they are systematized into 5 phases. 1. First was taking place in the second half of the 19th century, 2. Second at the turn of the 19th and 20th century, 3. Third between the First and Second World Wars, 4. Fourth during the Second World War, 5. Fifth from the end of the Second World War to 1980s when immigration into Croatia started to stagnate. The last phase, which is currently underway, can be named the sixth.
