TECHNOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF CAD/CAM SYSTEM FOR INSOLE DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING
Impressive strides in medicine enhanced a necessity for highly advanced computer systems which would provide measurements and visualizations aids with high degree of accuracy, high standards planning and application of specific medical procedures. Orthopaedy as a medical branch was enriched for a new approach in design and application of orthoses and prostheses, CAD/CAM. The application of CAD/CAM techniques has significantly contributed to development of new tools, and application of new technologies in design and production of orthoses and prostheses. This paper brings some discussions about technological aspects of CAD/CAM systems for design and manufacturing of orthotics, in particular insoles. It will explain the relations between some designing features and technological requirements necessary to realize those features. In more details it will discuss the necessities for the following technological features: cutter radius compensation (CRC), toll path strategies and multipass machining. All the technological challenges and solutions will be explained on the CAD/CAM system Modeler
