REMOVAL OF REACIVE BLACK 5 DYE FROM TEXTILE WASTEWATER USING ACTIVATED CARBON

Textile industry uses large quantities of water for various textile processing operations. This results in wastewater of a very heterogeneous composition that needs to be treated by various processes. One of the wastewater treatment processes is adsorption. The adsorption behavior of dye Reactive Black 5 (Everzol Black B, Everlight Chemical Industrial Corp., C.I. 20505) on activated carbon of 0.1 g mass and at temperature of 45(±1) °C was investigated. The concentration of the dye was c0 = 300 mg dm-3 and the measurements were performed over a period of 30 minutes to 16 hours. The test results were compared to those obtained under the same conditions, but with activated carbon mass increase of 0.1 g, in order to determine the effect of the activated carbon mass on dye adsorption. In addition, influence of adsorption process on pH value and standard Gibbs free energy for both adsorption systems was also determined.
