Design of Spherical Lens Antennas Including Realistic Feed Model
The paper presents an accurate and computationally efficient method for designing spherical lens antennas. The spherical lens is rigorously taken into account by implementing the Green’s functions for the multilayer spherical structures. Important benefit of this method lies in the possibility to implement different types of feeding antennas in the design. This is achieved by transforming the considered feed radiation pattern from its local to the global spherical coordinate system. In order to efficiently implement this transformation the needed coefficients are calculated using Xu’s algorithm. The results of the analysis are compared with measured radiation pattern of a 12 layer Luneburg lens antenna.
