Vliv hustoty výsevu na ekonomiku produkce cukrové řepy
The paper presents the results of a field trial conducted in Eastern Croatia in order to determine the effect of sowing density on the yield and quality of sugar beet. In the 2014/2015 marketing year, 5 sowing densities (30, 000 ; 50, 000 ; 70, 000 ; 90, 000 and 110, 000 plants per 1 ha) of sugar beet were used. The aim of this paper is to determine the profitability of sugar beet production and to calculate the break-even point of beet root yield concerning the 5 different sowing densities and related costs. The average yield of sugar beet in the vegetative season 2014/2015 was 55.7 t ha–1 with the average sugar content 13.7% caused by a wet year that favoured the development of fungal sugar beet diseases. The highest root yield and sugar content were achieved with the sowing density of 110, 000 plants per 1 ha (62.4 t ha–1 and 14.4%). At that sowing density, a positive financial result (487.16 HRK ha–1) and the lowest unit cost (193.44 HRK t–1) were achieved. Producers will not generate loss if they sow 110, 000 sugar beet plants per 1 ha, which is the optimum sowing density.
