In situ analysis of swift heavy ion irradiated materials
To understand complex behavior of materials under the irradiation with energetic heavy ions, acquiring a lot of experimental data and a thorough analysis is needed. This can pose many problems for accelerator facilities, including large demand on the beam time, and large number of expensive samples. In situ analysis counters these problems in an efficient way by performing many measurements on the single sample during the single irradiation run. To illustrate this point, we will present several examples from recent research when this approach has been successfully used [1-3]. Also, other advantages of in situ measurements will be discussed [4].
