THE HISTORY OF THE US MILITARY PERSONNEL JACKETS
The US Army begun using the military personnel jackets as early as 1851. Afterwards, during the World War I, harsh climates forced US Army to start producing jacket insulated by fur and animal leather. During the World War II, material shortages forced US Army to reconsider the production. During that time, it became apparent that the US Army was faced with the limitation in raw materials required for continuous industrial expansion and was forced to find new synthetic materials. Synthetic materials, including rubber, had to be developed. The continuous development led to various jacket design. The development of new, improved types of multilayer fabrics and electrically heated suits, eliminated the future use of leather from 1944 onward. One of the key components of the US Army uniform during the World War II was the field jacket, intended for both combat and dress wear. The US Army started producing highly functional clothing, emphasizing the multifunctional clothing to be used in both the field or off-duty activities. By the beginning of 1942, the service coat was no longer seen as a field garment and was relegated to garrison and off-duty wear. Also, a wider variety of specialized uniform items were produced for different armed forces units.
