Fire safety of building façades an integral part of sustainable building design
Façades are one of the fastest pathways for the fire spread in buildings, primarily because of unlimited supply of oxygen and verticality, but also because of the current requirements of the design related to energy efficiency and aesthetic appeal. This is proved by many fire incidents occurred around the world, especially in tall buildings. The Grenfell Tower fire, happened in 2017., being the latest major incident, resulted in at least 80 fatalities. This paper gives the overview of the problem related to fire spread across facades and means of its assessment. Special focus is given to diversity of testing methods, currently used in Europe
