Comparative hailpad analysis between Croatia and Greece
Croatia and Greece are two countries in south-eastern Europe which are often affected by hailstorms , but are also attempting to reduce the corresponding risk by applying hail suppression programs. •Continental part of Croatia - flat area (26, 800 km2 ), covered with ≈ 590 hail suppression stations (CRO) ; •Hailpad polygon 30 x 20 km was installed in this area between three mountains (POL) ; •Northern Greece project area: 2670 km2 (GRE) ; •The data collected during the period 2010 – 2013 are used for comparison •Mean diameter of all hail stones, mean diameter of maximum hail stones (d), number of hailstones (n), mass (m) and kinetic energy (K.E.) are analysed. •K.E. distributions are compared on the basis of the Torro scale.
