Factory Layout optimization through Cyber-Physical System and Virtual Reality
In this research, a Cyber-Physical representation of a factory has been created. It is not just a 3D model of a factory, but it is extended with data about machines, workplaces, transportation routes and transport intensities, thus creating a special Cyber-Physical System called Digital Factory. In order to improve factory layout, in this case by minimizing transport efficiency (transport intensity multiplied by distance), visualization software visTABLE has been used. Using its visualization features a factory layout has been improved and presented as a Case Study. Using visTABLE's visualization tools and Virtual Reality support, a factory layout has been changed in order to improve transport efficiency for more than 37% in Case Study I, and more than 14% in Case Study II. Since, it is a solving of real-world problem, improvements have been made manually, but with support of 3D equipment like 3D TV and 3D glasses. All this was made using Schmigalla method for factory layout and visTABLE software.
