Radiation pneumonitis - a rare side effect of radiation therapy in breast cancer treatment. Case report
Radiation therapy is one of several therapy options in breast cancer treatment. It is applied locally and thus has a local effect. Side effects of radiation are the consequence of the irradiation of structures which are topographically close to the tumor and cannot be completely exempt from therapy due to technical reasons. Radiation pneumonitis is a non- infectious inflammation of the lungs caused by cancer treatment. It is a late side effect which occurs 4 -12 weeks after radiation therapy has been completed.
