INFLUENCE OF TEMPERATURE ON ELECTROCHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF AA5083 ALUMINIUM ALLOY IN SEAWATER
Although is known that chloride ions have a negative impact on corrosion performance of aluminium alloy AA5083, these alloys are widely used in marine environment mainly due to the fact that AA5083 constructions have the favourable strength to density ratio compared to the conventional steel constructions. The aim of this paper was to determine the influence of seawater temperature on corrosion potential, pitting potential, polarization resistance, current density and corrosion rate of AA5083 aluminium alloy. Thus, the investigation on two different temperatures (25 ± 0, 5)°C and (30 ± 0, 5)°C was performed using electrochemical methods such as linear polarization, cyclic polarization as well as potentiodynamic polarization. In order to obtain more accurate and realistic results, fresh seawater was sampled as an electrolyte in Šibenik region. In addition, AA5083 was tested in synthetic seawater. Obtained results have shown that increase in temperature leads to an increase in corrosion activity of AA5083 aluminium alloy in both electrolytes.
