Influence of the countercations (Na, K, Ca and Mg) of a natural zeolite-clinoptilolite on the removal of ammonium
This paper deals with the possibility of ammonium removal from water solution by means of clinoptilolite-rich tuff from Donje Jesenje, Croatia. Natural zeolite-clinoptilolite was converted into a near homoionic state in Na, K, Ca and Mg-form by conditioning with 2 mol/L NaCl, KCl, CaCl_2 and MgCl_2 at 70^o C. The total exchange capacity of zeolite samples according to Langmuir isotherm model was determined. Satisfactory conformity between experimental data and the model predicted values was expressed by the correlation coefficient (R^2).
