Determining Throughput Capacity of Railway Lines by Means of Queuing Theory
This paper presents the methodological procedure of determining throughput capacity of railway lines by means of the queuing theory. Special emphasis is put on calculating the throughput capacity depending on the quality of transportation service. In other words, throughput capacity needs to be determined for the level of railway line utilisation that ensures maximum difference between the revenues and the total costs, and if the revenues are less than the costs, for utilisation conditions, where the difference between the costs and the revenues is minimal. This condition of difference between the revenues and the costs can be replaced by empirically determined value of the sum of consecutive delays of trains on a line section during the day.
