La pieve di San Martino di Piove di Sacco (Padova)
The church of San Martino di Piove di Sacco (Padua) was completely rebuilt, between 1893 and 1908, in Romanesque style, according to the architectural concepts then prevailing. Although lacking in medieval architectural evidence, it turned out to be an interesting case study for several reasons. It is described in detail in the pastoral visit of Bishop Barozzi of 1489 ; a local scholar recorded the sequence during the demolition ; that sequence has been verified by georadar prospection. The two identified construction phases (the first, probably late Lombard ; the second around 1100) have a articular meaning not only in local context, but in a more general historical picture between Byzantine Venice and Italy.
