Status and prospective development of mining in Croatia
According to geological structure of Croatia in the Croatian mining industry the predominant role have the petroleum and natural gas exploitation. The coal production was declining continuously in the last thirty years, and in 1999 it vanished completely. The second important group of raw minerals in Croatian mining industry are non-metal raw minerals. Croatia produced sufficient quantities of construction raw materials (stone: crushed and building, sand and gravel, clay and cement rocks) and some industrial minerals. In the group of metal raw minerals Croatia has long tradition in openpit and underground exploitation of bauxite.
