Assessing the role of individual variable pay within a collectivistic culture country
In the context of growing global use of variable pay and theoretical suggestions to omit from using individual- based variable pay in collectivistic societies it is important to further examine the role of individual variable pay in such cultural surrounding. The research performed shows that in Croatia, a highly collectivistic country, majority of companies offer some form of individual variable pay to its employees. The use of individual-based pay for performance is depending upon company size and ownership structure. However, contrary to some previous findings and expectations, the analysis revealed only minor differences between companies that apply/do not apply individual incentives.
