Modification of Induction Motor Stator Core to Active Magnetic Bearing for Education
Through years of development, active magnetic bearings (AMB) have become irreplaceable parts of machine construction in areas where precision, high speed and minimal maintenance are required. Usually, AMB been used as carriers of rotating objects or shafts, but can also be used for translational sliding. The principle of the AMB is that there is no contact between the rotating part and the stator using levitation by the action of a directed magnetic field. For the purposes of education in the field of advanced electric power management techniques, an educational magnetic bearing model developed through modification of the existing stator package of induction motors with 24 slots. Complete magnetic and mechanical calculation, and simulation been made using FEM and compared to measurements on the real model.
