Comparison and Analysis of Torque, Mechanical Power and Efficiency with Multi-Phase Induction Motor
Multiphase electric machines are becoming more and more important in today’s high power applications. The induction machine (IM) is used in wide variety of applications as a means of converting electric power to mechanical power. This paper will analyse the torque, mechanical power, efficiency and speed for 4 pole induction motor with 3, 6 and 9 phases and 36 slots on the stator. Phase number appears to be slightly large, but with the advantages such as reduction in voltage rating of the power switch and dc link supports the selection of large phase number. Multiphase (more than three phases) machines have some advantages over three-phase ones: Improved fault tolerance, reduced torque pulsations, lower per phase power handling requirements, enhanced modularity and improved noise characteristics. The simulation model, the distribution of magnetic induction, losses and other parameters are created in the software package ANSYS.
