Exploring young people's attitudes towards gender pay gap in Croatia
Gender pay gap is a very interesting and current topic both in Croatia and in the rest of the world. The principle of equal pay demands that both genders receive equal pay for the same work or for work of equal value. This master thesis explores the gender pay gap, which is defined as the difference between the average hourly pay of men and women. By looking at sources of gender pay gap, such as undervaluation of women’s work and segregation in labor market, the thesis identifies constitutional and legal foundations that ensure gender equality, and overview of current situation of gender pay gap in the world, with reference to Croatia. As the society developed trough years, significant advances have been made regarding the position of women in the labour market and in their pay equality. But anyway, regardless of the high education and expertise of women, they are sometimes discriminated against employment, wages and further progress in their careers (Trieman & Hartmann, 1981). The empirical part of this thesis analyses the attitudes of people in Croatia about differences in wages between men and women. People are aware that there are some differences in gender pay gap, but also that women, if motivated enough, can manage to succeed in today's business world, and can fight for equal rights and equal pay.
